We found Black Dog Tavern by chance while walking around downtown Kingston — and were pleasantly surprised! The interior looks like a little museum: elegant, spotless, and beautifully designed. We were seated almost immediately and even offered complimentary Prosecco — such a nice touch! The food was excellent (especially the French toast), and the service was fast, friendly, and professional. Cozy atmosphere, comfortable noise level — perfect for a relaxed brunch. Highly recommend and would definitely come back!

We recently hosted our staff Christmas party at Black Dog Tavern, and it couldn’t have been a better experience! The atmosphere was festive, warm, and absolutely perfect for a group celebration. Staff went above and beyond—friendly, attentive, and incredibly organized. The food was the real standout. Steak was cooked absolutely perfect, but the mixed mushroom toast appetizer stole the show for me. Rich, flavourful, and beautifully prepared—honestly one of the best small plates I’ve had anywhere. It set the tone for the rest of the meal. The combination of great service, fantastic food, and a cozy environment made it a night our team won’t forget. Highly recommend Black Dog Tavern for any gathering—or even just to treat yourself to that mushroom toast!

Absolutely incredible meal. We had oysters, beef tartar, kale salad, steak, and duck cassoulet. Everything was perfect. Paired with perfect martinis. Lemon dessert was divine. Maddie's service was exceptional. She was so kind and welcoming. We can't wait to come back. Well done everyone from back to front of house, we were very impressed!

We decided to try this restaurant on a whim (walking by, no reservation). Delicious meal. Shared a plate of calamari as an appetizer. For the main, I had the North African Tagine and added shrimp (chicken and beef are available as add-one too), and my dining partner had the pan-fried trout. Both were generous portions. The desserts were very good. The service was very attentive and I enjoyed the restaurant. Highly recommend.
