I recently had a hernia repair surgery at Waverly Health Center performed by Dr. Henry. The overall experience was very great. Dr. Henry did a great job with the surgery, and I’m thankful for his skill and care. The nurses were especially wonderful — they explained everything clearly, answered all my questions, and made me feel comfortable throughout the process. The anesthesia team was also great and helped everything go smoothly. I’m thankful my first surgery was performed by Dr. Henry. I really appreciate everyone at Waverly Health Center for the excellent care I received.

For my fist emergency visit, I had the best care and experience! I was kept informed of all procedures, tests, and labs. The nurses and doctors had great bed side manner and always asked about my comfort.

The entire staff at the Waverly Health Center outpatient surgery clinic were friendly, helpful, and professional. I was treated very well! Highly recommend Dr. Garrett and all the nurses involved.

My 83-year-old grandmother was brought in to the emergency center after sustaining a proximal humerus fracture due to a fall. While such an injury might be considered relatively routine in younger or more independent patients, my grandmother is highly disabled and her living environment is not safe for independent recovery. It was clear that she required a much higher level of care and consideration than she received. Shockingly, there was no social worker available on staff that day to assess her situation. In my experience with other hospitals, social workers are routinely on call during weekends for events such as this. The absence of such critical support at Waverly Health Center not only reflects a lack of preparedness, but also shows a negligent disregard for vulnerable patients who cannot advocate for themselves. Due to this lack of proper care and assessment, my grandmother was sent home, despite her obvious physical limitations and unsuitable living conditions. The very next day, we took her to the emergency department at Allen Hospital in Cedar Falls, where the response from the staff was immediate and appropriately concerned. The doctors and nurses there were disturbed by the decision made at Waverly. Their social worker confirmed that while weekend placements for nursing homes are difficult to impossible, the staff took one look at my grandmother and recognized she could not safely remain at home, as she could not perform her ADL’s, let alone transfer to the hospital bed without significant help, and was admitted without any fuss. Furthermore, while under Waverly’s care, my grandmother was left alone so long she had an accident. The nurse who got her changed (without wiping her down to ensure skin health) was audibly frustrated and rude to her. Another nurse finally announced my arrival, as we were standing together outside of the exam room. This announcement was clearly an effort to interrupt and alleviate the inappropriate behavior happening inside the room. That level of disrespect toward an elderly and disabled patient is not only unprofessional but unethical. This entire situation has left our family with serious concerns about the standards of care and policies in place at Waverly Health Center, especially when it comes to vulnerable elderly patients.
