I recently had the pleasure of getting a cut and color inspired by my favorite photos, and the results were absolutely perfect. Before my appointment, Coco took the time to do a thorough consultation so I knew exactly what to expect and what my payment would look like. Coco was incredibly easy to talk to—it genuinely felt like I was chatting with a friend I’d known for years. From the moment I walked in, the vibe of the salon was awesome. I felt completely safe and welcomed, which is so important when trying a new stylist or service. The environment was comfortable, and everything about the experience was inviting. The most impressive part was that I got exactly what I wanted—a rare achievement when it comes to cut and color services. I’ve struggled in the past to find someone who can really nail my inspo pictures, and Coco delivered flawlessly. I’ll absolutely be coming back, and I highly recommend Coco to anyone looking for expert hair care in a friendly, enjoyable setting.

Twylla and her team are amazing. I have been going to Twylla for so many years - I've lost track! Watching Twylla's professional career and salon develop has been very exciting! I love the way she makes me look and feel during every appointment, and I love the way the team interacts all around. There is always a welcoming energy throughout the salon, with a wonderful blend of music, laughter, and kindness. The people, the products, the decor - they are all part of the positive experience. I also have some of my appointments with Collin, and he is very talented! Over the years I have observed several stylists train with Twylla and develop their confidence and skills - which adds to the great feelings I have about this magical place. Whether I just need a root-touch up, trim, highlights, or a major color change - I always feel well taken care of at Lumos Nox!

I cannot say enough good things about Lumos Nox. I'm a guy, and I don't do salons (not my vibe). I have a barber who I like and trust, but I needed someone for a professional dye job for the 2025 Chicago Pride parade. As soon as I walked into Lumos Nox, I fell in love with the salon, its whole vibe, and its staff. The staff was so friendly without coming off as arrogant or uppity (as the first salon did when I visited). It was like I'd been a customer for years. I showed them what I wanted (a rainbow pattern) and they immediately recommended Cassidy. Their excitement for what I was going to do to my hair was greater than my own, I think. I met Cassidy a week later for my appointment. As someone who has NEVER dyed his hair at all, I was terrified for such a bold color pattern. Cassidy and the entire staff were so amazing and comforting, though. Cassidy, specifically, was just incredible. I was nervous about her experience (only 23 years old), but I could not have been happier with the results (see pictures). My hair looked fantastic, and Cassidy is as skilled as someone who's been doing this for decades. As an aside, Lumos Nox is incredibly LGBTQ friendly (something important to me), and not just in a "we don't discriminate" way but in a way where they actually understand the specific wants, needs, and desires of that community. A girl next to me was non-binary and was getting a haircut to match her gender. She was incredibly nervous but her stylist was professional, kind, and compassionate. I didn't see the finished look, but I know she was happy with it. Lumos Nox is just an incredible salon, one that I will go back to when I need something extra done to my hair, and Cassidy specifically is an amazing stylist who deserves the extra attention she's getting in this review (though all of the stylists seemed amazing). The comments I got at work and the Pride Parade were overwhelmingly positive. Even weeks after the appointment, coworkers are still stopping me to talk about my hair (and take pictures of it, in one instance). I was stopped at least twice an hour the entire day I was in Chicago for the parade. I've actually come to like my hair so much that I'm sad I will have to get a haircut soon and cut most of the color off. So if you are trying to decide on a salon, whether you need fashion colors, a regular cut and style, or something that properly expresses who you are as a person, there is no other salon I would recommend other than Lumos Nox. If you are on the fence, at least give them a call or stop in. Give them that much, because you won't regret it. One last thing, to anyone who identifies as LGBTQ+ like I do, I'm not a salon guy (like I said), but many friends and coworkers I've met have expressed to me how hard it is to find a salon that they can trust and that can style their hair in a way that properly expresses who they are. I've recommended Lumos Nox to all of them. If you identify as LGBTQ+ and need a salon, go to Lumos Nox, no questions (they also give discounts during Pride month, so there's that).

a little over a year ago now, i had long + plain hair and i needed someone to transform me so i could live my gay little mullet fantasy. luckily i was already following lumos nox stylist janks on instagram so i knew exactly where to go. she did not disappoint and neither did the salon!! i go to janks faithfully now and not to be dramatic buts it’s one of the best decisions i’ve made for myself in years. the salon is super cute, loudly accepting of queer people, and also neurodivergent friendly with fidget toys galore and a welcoming/understanding staff. you feel a sense of community there which i appreciate deeply. i really can’t recommend it enough!
