DO NOT STAY HERE!! half the amenities in our room didn’t work, we told the front desk and absolute nothing was done (we stayed 2 days). A told them I wanted to check out early because things in our room didn’t work properly and they did absolutely nothing to address it. The manager called me on the hotel phone. She wouldnt give me her name and kept yelling if we checked out early we’d be charged more because we got the room at a “promotional rate” DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE there are many other, better hotels to stay that have clean rooms and an edible breakfast. I can see why this is the cheapest in town yet barely anyone was there compared to the others right next door.

This has been the absolute worst place I have stayed since traveling across country from Minneapolis to Alabama to the Northeast. The lobby is clean very welcoming but once you enter the hallways and upstairs the funk smell is atrocious. The rooms look clean but my body is covered in bed bug bites. As of August of 2025 I would not recommend this place to anyone. I went down at 8:00 for breakfast which starts at 7:00 there was dried eggs burnt sausage and in the dispenser maybe a bowl of each cereal there was fresh fruit but overall negative 3 out of 5

Hotel very dated and room decor quite "tired". Room extremely musty and smelled. The outdoor humidity was very low for August in Iowa yet dry clothing we hung in the room - the next day was very damp and smelled. Towels had no knap to them and were down to the foundation-weaving - some had stains on them. We stay frequently in much nicer hotels and never pay more than $180. an evening, the room rate for this hotel was ridiculous considering I would rate it a 1 out of 5 stars. We however were charged $214. / eve for a King room that quality-wise should have been $89, but a higher rate gouged guests given it was a city-driven event weekend. Will never stay at this property again.

The place was clean and the staff was very friendly. The hotel is in need of some repairs. The bathroom door doesn't close completely, but no big deal. The bed was not especially comfortable. The breakfast selection was alright, but not consistently replenished. Possibly because the hotel didn't have many guests that night. Overall I would stay again. The staff were very kind and the place was very clean. With some minor updates, it would be perfect.

The Black Hawk Hotel is a hotel.
