I delivered a load here today, which was a day late due to broker error/greed. Instead of giving me a grilling, the receiver was very accommodating and understanding of the problem. He has no clue how much he made my day. Truck drivers, though many who make excellent money and are fantastic people, get crapped on regularly by everyone from ownership (unless you own the truck) right on down the ladder. We are the "low hanging fruit" for everyones' complaints. A lot of it I understand, I have a thick skin and I'm representing my company, but many drivers do not enjoy being berated, put down, sworn at or disrespected. In addition, we encounter constant vile rage on the highways and byways of this country. I've had guns pointed at me, had to fight off gang members trying to break into my truck, and just general disrespect. Take a moment and try to understand the following statement: "if you bought it, a truck brought it". We drivers are literally the backbone of the nation, with out us, your world stops. I'm not asking for sympathy or anything else, but next time you think about flipping off, beeping at, or belittling a trucker, understand how important we are in your daily life, and the stress of being away from our family for long durations of time. Again, my thank to the previously acknowledged receiver and the others out there who appreciate the efforts we make.
