My son has gained many new physical skills related to the Martial Arts, but even more profoundly has been the improvement of the emotional and mental aspects. His continuous practice over age 6-8.5 years old has helped him to develop more confidence, standing up for himself and others in a diplomatic manner, regulating his reactions to adults and peers alike, and directing his energy in a more constructive physical way. We are particularly grateful especially for Master Bennet, Instructor Robert, and Instructor Amanda for all offering him a variety of approaches and modeling the core values which are the foundation of the school, and also being a source of encouragement when there has been illness, travel, complicated scheduling, and difficulty finding the groove again with longer breaks away. Dongs has provided a sense of routine and discipline for my son that can be challenging, yet always proves to be fruitful. Even when it has been a long hard day and he arrives so deflated, he almost always comes out of class feeling noticeably better, like giving a breath to new life, and when he learns something new he is eager to share. Lastly, Martial Arts can be for anyone, of any age and any walk of life, but you should be sure to expect to only get out of it what you commit yourself to put into it. When you are locked in, focused, and eager to grow in class, it is noticed; just the same as when you are struggling. The beauty I observe as a non-practitioner and parent, is that you are respectfully recognized for where you are in your own personal journey despite sharing the floor with peers. This is a wonderful school filled with awesome people and a solid curriculum. After nearly 15 years of training, I’ve come to recognize how unbelievably lucky I am to have grown up in such a positive and encouraging atmosphere. As a young person on my way to college very soon, I am saddened to have to leave this wonderful community, but I feel confident I’ll be able to handle the challenge. Apply yourself and the curriculum WORKS! The studio is always clean, and people are kind, friendly, and helpful. Even as a young girl, I have always felt safe and respected here by the instructors and students. Everyone is held to the same standard of excellence here– and it is considered a great honor as a higher belt to help out the lower belts. You get out what you put into the training, so it is important to keep a positive attitude and do your best in class. Asking questions is encouraged; the instructor and other students will be more than happy to help. Overall, as someone who has been through the children's classes here as well as made my way into the adult classes here, if you are looking for a positive but effective place to start training, this is it! I have been a student there for about 6 years and it has been a fantastic experience. The instructors are excellent, patient, and really dedicated to seeing everyone succeed. The classes are well organized and the curriculum is systematically taught to make the learning easier to absorb. They also make sure you get personal attention as you need it to help you learn the techniques and forms. As an older adult, attending classes and moving through the belt ranks has helped me with coordination, confidence, balance, strength, agility and memory.
