Customer experiences
Had an amazing time here. I stayed inpatient for 3 weeks and my only wish is that I could've stayed longer 🥲 My doctors ( Dr Bell and Dr Henderson) helped me progress so much in such a short time there. I went in with a Trach and a G tube and left without both of them. They also adjusted my meds to take out the ones I no longer needed. Myp therapists played a big role in these things too. I was eating only pureed things when I came in but left with an upgraded diet. I have both of my speech therapists to thank for that (Sarah & Elizabeth) even though I absolutely hate the swallow studies because of the Barium lol. My Pt's were amazing too ( Mary & Arthur). They helped me do things I didn't think would be possible with so little time including stands for multiple minutes straight(with help). Mary also helped adjust my chair when it needed to be without any problems. My OT pain management therapist Cassandra helped me get through my pain. She exudes so much peace and calm energy. All my nurses and PCT's were also great. Shout-out to Maddy who always helped me quickly and without a single complaint or even making me wait. Especially when I needed to get back in bed from my chair for pressure relief. My care manager was extremely helpful too with explaining everything to us and even helping me find a primary care doctor and setting up the follow up appointment with them. My experience here was absolutely amazing and they helped me out more in 3 weeks than the last facility I was at helped in 1 year.
I had a TBI ,traumatic brain injury. The hospital is expensive, all hospitals are. If you’re looking at hospitals for a loved one or possibly yourself, don’t waste time. The therapist’s are all very educated and top notch. The nurses are all very professional and very helpful. My Dr. and a few other Drs were very helpful. I couldn’t have done without the people. I wish I could pay it forward.
I have under gone 8 weeks of Occupational Therapy at Shirley Ryan. The quality of the care I have received is simply outstanding. My therapist was both experienced and knowledgeable which allowed her to provide me with care that was focused on my particular needs in a straight-forward and direct manner. I would strongly recommend both Lindsey as we as the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab to anyone who needs physical or occupational therapy.
I had a stroke in January of 2024, went here in February of 2024. My left side was affected, so the main focus was getting me walking again, and some work on my left hand. For the positives, the nurses were all really nice, and we worked HARD on my walking. I don't think my recovery would be as far as it is now, without their help. Their facilities are very nice, they have things I've only seen in movies! The views on the lake and downtown are amazing! There were some major issues during my stay however. When I was first being admitted, one of the nurses offhandedly mentioned that she thinks I might have a slightly rare medical issue. It really freaked me out, and when I was asking for clarification, and why they think that, she said she wasn't a doctor, so couldn't diagnose me. A few days later they sent a resident to talk to me, because I wasn't satisfied with that answer, she said the same thing! "I think you might, but I can't fully diagnose you here." I don't by the way, confirmed by my doctor. So I don't understand why that happened in the first place. Then, I was there for a month, I had my discharge date, then two days before I think I'm going home, they decide I'm not ready. But instead of telling me, they told me husband, and found out from him. That should have been a conversation my doctors had WITH ME. Instead, I had it dropped on me with no warning, and when I rightfully got upset, I got multiple lectures from multiple staff members, basically telling me I should WANT to be there. At the end, they said they weren't keeping me against my will, so I went home. I just didn't trust them anymore. So if you go here for rehabilitation, work HARD in therapy, it pays off, but watch yourself.
