Right Roofing is a company that is great to deal with when things go well. Sadly, like the other one star reviews noted, this is not the case when something goes wrong and you need them to warrant their work! We had our colorbond roof restored 2-3 weeks before ex-cyclone Alfred 2025 hit and we were initially very happy with the work. What we didn’t realise was that the team missed a screw in the roof that ended up causing a large leak in our hallway/kitchen ceiling. When I first contacted the owner (Brad) with videos taken from inside the roof cavity of the water pouring through the open screw hole, he explained that the reason I can see the hole is because it’s not drilled into timber, which means that whatever screw they put in must have fallen out in the storm. Given that the roof was very wet at the time, it was not possible to climb onto the roof to inspect the issue so I took his word. Upon inspection of the roof, I noted that the paint was perfectly sprayed over the empty screw hole, indicating that there was no screw in there at the time of painting. Our home insurer AAMI carried out a comprehensive inspection and came to the same conclusion. After I brought this to Brad’s attention, he suggested that the best way to rectify the issue is with a bolt to a screw from under the roof sheet and agreed to send someone out in the coming weeks to attend to it. A month passes and AAMI is requesting for the leak source to be rectified prior to their contractors engaging restoration work inside the home. So I reached out again to Right Roofing, this time via email to Kellie. She was quick to respond and arranged for someone to attend to the issue the next day (thank you Kellie). However, things quickly turned sour when they showed up to repair the issue. Instead of using a bolt screw that Brad had suggested during our call, the team member tried to just silicone the hole with a small cap screw that freely floated on top of the sheet. When I suggested that “I” would crawl into roof space with a timber to attach to the screw/truss, I was met with great hostility. The team member had Brad join over a video call and all of a sudden the story changed. Brad started blaming us for not having a screw in there in the first place even though we have had many major rains without ever a leak until our roof got restored. Then he accused me of demanding bolt screwing down the sheet which was not part of the quotation. I had never even known about the bolt screw option until he suggested to me over the phone and the quote was done completely online based on a full restore! We had done everything we could on our end not to drag them out Northside and had filed all the internal insurance claims with our home insurer instead of QBCC, which is who we should have contacted from the start. I was shocked at the unpleasant and rude manner in which Brad started to change the story and point the finger at anyone else than himself who carried out the replacement of the rusty/old screws. Because our roof was leaking from the said missing screw, AAMI had to send out an emergency make safe team to ensure our roof was no longer leaking. At the time of my call with Brad, he advised me to make sure that they don’t silicone everything which would make it hard for them to fix. So we asked the make safe team to use other means, which eventuated in sandbagging tarps over our roof. When the tarp was removed to rectify the missing screw issue, it was clear that the paint had started to bubble. When Brad joined on the video call, he flat out said it was nothing to do with their work and that they will not be doing anything to fix it. Even though 1) the tarp was placed 3 weeks after the roof had been restored; 2) it was only placed on the roof because Right Roofing had missed a screw hole to cause substantial leaking to the house; 3) I had followed Brad’s instructions to request no silicone fixes; and 4) had the team came out when I informed Brad which was on the day of the storm 9 March, the tarp would not have been on there long enough to cause any bubbling!
