I’ve been holding off on writing this and have never written a review but I had to say something about my experience getting my hair cut with Paul this summer. I'd been growing out my hair but wanted to add volume so I went to get my hair cut asking to keep my length and looking to add lots of layers. He reassured me that I would keep most of my length but would have to cut a few shorter pieces in order to add volume - which I said I was fine with. He ended up deciding what would look best and cut off more than 5 inches (almost 13cm) in length of my hair and cut my curtain bangs so short they weren’t able to fit into a roller or be styled properly. Instead of keeping my long hair and creating short layers, I left with short hair and two visible layers (cutting of more than HALF of what I requested). This was especially frustrating after spending time showing 5+ inspiration pictures and insisting that I didn’t want more than 2 inches cut from the length. Of course its important to voice your opinion if you’re not happy during you’re experience, but as inexperienced customers we’re also meant to put our trust and faith when being serviced by a master stylist who charges $100 for a haircut. This was not my first haircut with Paul and usually had good experiences but this was by far the most disappointing haircut I’ve ever received and was not at all what I asked for. For reference the first 2 pictures was my hair before, next 2 are what I asked for, and last 2 are the haircut I was left with (1st immediately after the haircut, 2nd after the first wash). Paul is an amazing charismatic person who is very talented with other haircuts and styles but if he couldn’t deliver on what I asked for, he should have communicated that to me. Rather than convincing me that he could, and simply going with what he thought would look best. This was an extreme dent to my confidence since I work in fashion and spent weeks avoiding seeing friends. It’s been 4 months since I have still not been able to grow my hair out to nearly where it was before.

I had the pleasure of visiting Hair Republic Salon at 7 Clarence in Ottawa today and was lucky enough to have Vanessa as my stylist. From start to finish, she was absolutely FABULOUS. I had the absolute best experience with Paul! From the moment I sat in his chair, he made me feel so comfortable and at ease. He took the time to ask questions, explain every step, and make sure I fully understood how the process would turn out. I haven’t really done much with my hair before, aside from a cut when I was 12, and I had never colored it, so this was a big change for me. Paul not only did an incredible job with my hair, but he also taught me how to care for it afterwards. I’m so thankful I trusted him, because he completely transformed me.
