Customer experiences
I have visited this place a variety of times since moving into the area and I have got to say — the coffee is brilliant and so delicious! I look forward to coming here. However, I’ve noticed that this place can be severely understaffed, which saddens me. The baristas try to be courteous but I can tell they are definitely stressed out. There are so many fun drinks I’d love to try, but it’s hard to with such stressed baristas with little to no help. All in all, I hope this place gets better and continues to grow!
A humble place to get a coffee and a bite before or after a ferry trip. The bacon and egg sandwich was average. If you can get a window seat, then you can watch the ferries arrive and depart.
Updated Review (May 2022): The only changes that have been made at Port City since my first review have been for the better. Port City's staff, as well as it's food and drink selection remain in the upper echelons of Dartmouth cafes where they truly belong. Currently, the Alderney location has a weekly special on offer, the three sandwiches that have appeared so far are pictured below. At the end of June, the most popular one is going to be the special over the summer. My personal favourite was from last Saturday (May 14th), called What's The Dillio. All in all, Port City at Alderney is one of the prime destinations for coffee and breakfast in downtown Dartmouth. You can't go wrong when you go to Port City. (First Review circa 2020): Great coffee, great sandwiches, great baked goods, awesome staff. My partner and I always make sure to stop here when we come to the farmer's market.
I have had multiple poor experiences here over the past year or so. I stopped going until recently but decided to give them another shot. I had issues with my drinks being made incorrectly (oat milk vs normal milk, wrong drinks entirly, etc). This am was the last straw for me. The server ignored us while she chatted and j9ked around with her coworkers. Then when she took my order she then went back to chatting. I had to ask her to please make my Latte as I wanted to catch the next ferry. My latte was make with drip coffee... when I asked if she pulled a shot she said yes (I watched, she did not). I won't be giving them any more of my business.
Port City Coffee is a coffee stand.
