This rental company is attempting to withhold over $3,000 from the security deposit. Fortunately, we have photos, video recordings of the move-in condition, and emails noting damages at the start of the lease. Their actions appear fraudulent, and we may have to pursue the matter in small claims court. If you rent from them, protect yourself: Take detailed photos and videos at move-in and move-out. Document everything in writing. Keep copies of all correspondence. If possible, go elsewhere.
