I’ve been bringing Winston to VCA Carp Road Animal Hospital for a while now and have always had great experiences, but our recent visit with Dr. Jason Niness really stood out. Winston needed a second TPLO surgery, and Dr. Niness was absolutely phenomenal. He was so informative, compassionate, and understanding — never pressuring me, and taking the time to walk me through every option and alternative. I felt genuinely supported the whole way through. It was such a stark contrast to Winston’s first TPLO surgery experience at another clinic, where I was pressured into booking right away at the most expensive place and even made to feel guilty for not noticing the issue sooner. With Dr. Niness, it was the complete opposite — he gave me space to make the decision that felt right for Winston, without any guilt or pressure. This was just one of many positive experiences I’ve had at VCA Carp Road, but it really reminded me how much I appreciate their approach to care.

Very disappointed with the care my senior dog received at this clinic. After a poor diagnosis, there was no follow-up, check-in, and no guidance or discussion about end-of-life care options. The lack of compassion and communication during such a critical stage was incredibly disheartening. The second star is for the reception staff who was always incredibly lovely.

Our little Kitten Lily had seen a different vet in the west end who was cold and unfriendly. He had prescribed medication in liquid form (2 syringes a day for several days) -it was traumatic for both Lily and us. She hid after that, and didn’t trust us. I stopped those meds and booked an apt here. What a difference! Dr. Smith was so warm and welcoming, he held Lily and spoke to her in a gentle and heartwarming voice. He gave her the medication she needed as a flavoured pill split in half that she had no trouble taking and made herself very comfortable in his office. He answered all of our questions without ever rushing us. He was calm and caring. You can tell this is his vocation, more than a job. I am so grateful to have found Dr. Smith and I am happy to make this location our permanent vet!

If you're looking for a veterinarian office, you can stop now. This is the one. 2025 edit/update: Carp continues to exceed my expectations. Both my cats have had health issues recently (rash, sneezing, weight) and we've seen both Dr. Smith & Dr. Oliarnyk. Both of them were extremely compassionate, thorough, and never rushed me. They even followed up after the appointments. All of the other staff were also welcoming and kind. I can't recommend them enough. (While services are expensive, I can't comment on pricing because I haven't compared to another hospital, but the service my cats receive here is worth the money for me) I've been bringing my cats here for years now, despite the 40 minute drive. Spays, dental surgeries, radioactive iodine treatment, etc. I never once felt like they were over charging or just trying to get money from me. I never felt rushed and even when I acted like a crazy cat mom, they were patient and reassuring, by phone and in the office. Dr. Stapely changed my old cats life for the better and truly cared about her - the entire staff did. I will keep bringing my girls here as long as I'm living in Ottawa.
