We just moved to Ottawa from Oakville and we LOVE shopping at the Greenbank road Loblaws. The store is clean, well merchandised with friendly helpful staff. Today was the last day of the Butterball turkey sale so the selection was very limited. We spoke with the meat manager STEVE who went to the back room and got a 6 kg. turkey for myself and another customer. WHAT A GREAT GUY! Loblaws personal service is why we shop here.

The cashier did not make eye contact at all. She said “one minute,” then put on plastic gloves and sprayed Alcon disinfectant before proceeding to check us out. There was no greeting of any kind. I don’t know her name, but she had black curly hair and was wearing black horn-rimmed glasses. I believe this was racial discrimination. Because we are Asian, I believe that is why this happened. This was the most unpleasant experience I have had since coming to Canada, not only at Loblaws but overall.

The store itself is clean, well-organized, and offers a good selection of products. However, the customer service experience needs improvement. Some staff members come across as unapproachable, and interactions—particularly with minority customers—can feel dismissive at times, which is disappointing. Additionally, assistance at the party and balloons section is inconsistent. Often, a representative is unavailable, and when someone is present, they are sometimes unwilling to help locate specific items. Loblaws is known as a top-tier brand, and I feel the level of customer service should better reflect the standards and reputation of the company.

To start off, the customer service at the fish department is amazing, very professional and respectful. Carnegy did an excellent job serving me, as he always does. I will definitely be coming back.
