Don't fall for it. Tommy is extremely pushy, to the point of aggressive. Lots of promises about how good they are, how I shouldn't use anyone else. I paid almost $7000, and they broke and stole or misplaced so much. I filed with the insurance, which offered me $13 for over $2000 of broken stuff. Now I have to go to small-claims court, and this time, I will list everything they broke. I was generous when I filed with the insurance. They just threw glassware, computers, all kinds of stuff into big boxes. Just awful--traumatic, depressing, and costly.
Disappointing and stressful experience—would not recommend. I booked a move with Texas Movers Group (TMG) back in January for a May move. I spoke with Tommy Lee, who walked me through the inventory process in detail to ensure the quote and truck size were accurate. I paid a $1,200+ deposit and was told I could cancel up to a week before the move for a full refund. However, on moving day, things took a sharp turn. The movers arrived only to inform me that the load would require double the space originally quoted—essentially doubling the price on the spot. They also told me they’d need to charge an additional $400 for a “shuttle fee” because their 18-wheeler couldn’t access my complex, so they needed to rent a U-Haul. This brought the total cost from $2,145 to nearly $3,900. After multiple calls with management, they agreed to reduce it to $3,200—but still blamed me for not accurately describing my inventory, despite the fact that I had three detailed calls specifically to avoid exactly this issue. Worse yet, I was told that if I chose to cancel at that moment, I’d only be refunded 20% of my deposit. In short: the quote was dramatically increased the day of the move, with no real recourse offered and very little accountability from the company. After looking into it further, I’ve seen other customers share very similar experiences. If you’re considering using TMG, I’d strongly encourage you to look elsewhere. In my experience, this company did not honor their word or the spirit of good customer service.
This was an emotionally traumatizing move all thanks to Texas Movers Group. Everything was great over the phone with Tommy, but little did I know they would pull the whole bait and switch. I got quoted $4500 for my move and was told they would be there in 3-5 days, which was awesome. I moved forward with the move and paid my $2500 deposit. Things quickly turned south the day of the move. The manager, Zach, showed up and said he needed to fill out some additional paperwork. The first red flag should’ve been when he took a personal phone call in my apartment yelling at someone over the phone that if they weren’t going to do the work, he would call the police and have them arrested. Then he told me as they are loading the truck that I owe him ANOTHER $7800 due to all the stuff I had was way more than the inventory list. I was confused how I went from having 818 cubic feet of stuff to 1400 without them loading all my things in the truck. Zach claimed he just “knows” I have that much stuff. I started crying and he immediately dropped the price to $5800 which means that they are just making up numbers to begin with. I call my dad who used to work for his fathers moving company to come aid in the situation because I was uncomfortable. My dad came and looked at the truck. He knew their dimensions were off immediately and called Zach out by making him pull out a tape measure and measure each of the sections in the truck. Zach claims each section is 200 cubic feet, but numbers on a tape measure don’t lie and each section is only 150. Therefore, they were trying to scam me $1400 worth of space that doesn’t exist in the truck. My dad pulled the plug and had them unload the truck of all my stuff because we both didn’t feel comfortable moving my forward, on top of them saying they won’t be there in Utah with my things in 21 days, unless I want to pay $600 to express ship my things. Don’t worry, you won’t get your money back with express shipping if they aren’t there in 3-6 days. Don’t use Texas Movers Group. You are better off renting a u-haul and hiring a driver. Your stuff will get there the same time as you and it’s way more cost effective. Paid $4300 for a 26’ u-haul and a driver for my long distance move.
