Nice building. A little cool inside but has enough seating and areas for wrestlers. Food vendors outside with decent selection. Good bathrooms.
Probably one of if not the best event space in the state of Iowa. The Expo Center, or Iowa Events Center, has multiple floors for all kinds of events. They have smaller rooms for more close-knit gatherings, and a full on ballroom on the uppermost floor. There’s plenty of restrooms on each floor, places to sit down and rest, and outlets if you need to charge anything while you’re here. It looks like a small place on the outside, but once you’re inside there’s quite a lot of space in here. I came here for the first time for a GalaxyCon convention and it was a really nice experience. I stayed here until pretty late and traffic in downtown around midnight is pretty lowkey, at least on the weekends. I never really felt unsafe either. Friendly staff and people everywhere if you ever need help with directions. Only thing that is a bummer is there aren’t a wide variety of places to eat nearby. There was food offered inside the center but it was kind of bland. There’s maybe 2-3 restaurants within walking distance to the expo center that are actually worth it. It’d be nice if they built some more restaurants in the empty lots nearby.
What a great space! I have been here for two events in the past two years- Blank Children's Hospital Festival of Trees and Lights (Thanksgiving weekend every year) and the Teaching for Impact conference (June of 2023). The festival is an annual tradition for my family. We are so lucky to have great downtown spaces for events like this. The conference was catered for breakfast and the food was excellent.
Staff is friendly, the venue is huge but easy to get around in. Parking costs too much, but we were able to leave and return on the same day without additional charges. Their security procedures need updating. I was at an event in which attendees were scared and ran to the exits, or wherever they could get away from Hall C.
Iowa Events Center is a convention center.
