We worked with Pat for over two months to address barking, walking, and excitement issues with our corgi Ruby, and we couldn't be happier with the results. Pat's approach was exactly what we needed: professional and effective. What we appreciated most was Pat's non-treat focused training methods. Instead of relying heavily on food rewards (as other trainers emphasize), he taught us techniques that helped Ruby make better decisions. Pat didn't just train our dog - he trained us as owners to maintain these improvements long-term. He understood Ruby's specific needs as a corgi and tailored the training accordingly. The in-home (after 5pm) sessions were incredibly convenient and allowed Pat to work with Ruby in the environment where the behaviors were occurring. After the first week we noticed considerable improvement; that was a clear sign for us we made a good choice in dog trainers. We highly recommend James River Dog Training to anyone looking for effective and humane dog training in the Richmond area.

Pat does an excellent job! He takes great pride in explaining everything and making sure you understand all the details. My Zowie has made some great improvements! He was also very easy to work with as far scheduling and needing to work around any changes you might need. Pat also provided a great manual that helps you stay on track and work with your dog after the official training is over. Pat will be very flexible if you're schedule needs more time in between trainings to help you implement each thing. He's also accessible if you have any questions. Highly recommend!

The training service is great! Our 2.5 year old lab was super rambunctious and simply would not listen to us. After going through the training program he is a changed dog thanks to Pat! There is a night and day difference from how our dog acts. We went from dreading walks due to how much he pulled on the leash to actually enjoying them with our dog. Could not recommend enough!
