Customer experiences
I ordered a basic dish - dal tadka at 8:45pm. Upon ordering service was good and front desk lady is helpful, i asked lady if chef is okay to make my dish during restaurant closing hour, she checked with chef and he said okay, chef prepared my dish in hurry and made the curry very bad with huge amount of mustard seeds which no one can eat and it is basic dish even a 10 year old can make it tasty. I called to restaurant and discussed the same with the chef regarding the dish, he said you could have brought the back i could have prepared freshly.. how can i bring back once the restaurant is closed at 9 pm? If a chef is not interested to cook during closing hours he could have said simply No. i could have saved $24 and can have a better food right? I am a tourist person here.. I may be a one time customer.. if food is prepared in good quality i may be the regular customer and can recommend few other fellow friends..
We enjoy Indian food a lot, and we have eaten at a lot of different Indian restaurants. This was not our worst experience, but definitely nowhere near the top. The best way to describe the food - it was mediocre. We ordered 3 dishes (Chicken Korma, Palak Paneer, and Daal Tadka) which are 3 pretty basic dishes that we enjoy a lot, and we tend to order them whenever we try a new Indian restaurant. Here, the Chicken Korma was the best of the 3, but it was still not very good. The palak paneer was okay, but lacked flavor. And the Daal Tadka, it was way over-cooked. The lentils had disappeared (cooked down so much that the dish became a lentil soup like split pea soup does). Everything just lacked flavor, compared to other Indian restaurants we frequent. Service was fine for what it is, which is a low-service model. You order food at the counter, and then they bring it out to your table. It's all paper plates & plastic utensils. For the cost ($15-$18 per entree), it's not a great value. Will find other dining options next time we are in OBX.
Horrible food and service. To start with the food- tasteless, just sweet ketchup and tomato sauce for the three food items we tried. All tasted the same. Chicken felt days old. Naan was obviously the frozen kind . Now about the service, it was hot inside and when we asked to semit below a fan they said it's reserved. No one came but more importantly this was the exact same experience with a couple of other people ( see low rated reviews).this is just lazy staff. We were told that the water is salty so we have to buy it
I went on holiday to outer bank and visited Himalaya Restaurant. I was really missing authentic Indian food. My friends and I tried the Chana Masala and Daal tadka . I have to say, the Daal Tadka was so good it reminded me of my home country. They added roasted mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and methi leaves to the Daal Tadka, which brought back memories of my grandmom's daal. I highly recommend this restaurant to all Indian families visiting outer banks(kitty hawk) . You must give it a try! I even took some Daal Tadka to go when I was returning home.
Himalaya Indian Cuisine is a indian restaurant.
