Customer experiences
We recently toured and applied for a listing with this company. We worked with Jillena and it was a very efficient and pleasant experience. I definitely recommend Select Properties as a solid option for good renters looking for a new place.
Horrible turn around on timely maintenance! I went 3 weeks without a heater in the dead of winter because they didnāt have a current Covid sign in my file. I had sent that twice but according to them they needed an update for my file. Oxymoron; someone had to be present when maintenance arrived and were not allowed to leave until work was performed. Now, March 1,2024 I was charged 2 months rent for no reason. In four plus years I always pay on line by the 29th for the following month. Iām just furious with this company š”
Overall not a great experience. The house was very old and there was a lot of wear and tear from previous tenants. The carpet had to be stretched because of how old it was. It really should have been replaced. We had to deep clean it every 3 months because it was so stained. During the winter a tree fell the backyard and they never replied to my email or phone call about it. We had to remove it ourselves. A few months after the back fence fell and it took them 3 months to fix it. Upon moving out 1.5 years late. They charged $2,500 for the cleaning and repairs. Mind you, we cleaned the entire house when we left and all the things they charged us for where things that had been poorly fixed at move in. Example- the carpet needing replacement, the binds being glued back on, a piece of cupboard being glued back on. They have poor customer and rarely call back or reply to email.
I waited until I was off the lease and given back my security deposit before posting a review. And boy, does it feel good to finally speak up. It's harsh, but in my experience over the past year, I've concluded that this company and its employees are inefficient, unprofessional, and extremely hard to work with. This is going to be a long one, so buckle in. I had high hopes with them in the beginning. During the application process and up until the lease signing, the employees here were all very helpful, responsive, and friendly. Most rental companies in Sacramento werenāt even giving me a call back so I felt I was in good hands with them at first. Unfortunately, things took a huge turn for the worse when I moved in. First off, I canāt speak for all the properties they manage, but the one I rented on Capitol Avenue in Sacramento was in awful shape. The exterior of the building itself was absolutely filthy, covered in cobwebs, debris, and layers of dirt/dust. There were spider nests lining the rooftop eaves and the paint was cracking off in several places. Iāve been told that they just donāt ever clean it(one employee told me: āItās just not something we do. Sorry youāre used to different standards of living.ā). The interior was not much better, especially the basement laundry room, which not only had grime that looked like hadn't been cleaned in 10 years but only held one washer and one dryer for the entire 16-unit complex to use and they would both constantly break down for days or weeks at a time. The unit itself I was in had problems of its own as well. This is to be expected with older buildings and Iām pretty accustomed to watching out for these things and reporting issues that come up. I wonāt go into detail about all the problems I had, since google is saying my review is too long, but just know, they were pretty constant in my one year tenure. However, the REAL problem here wasnāt the issues with the apartment but this management companyās reactions to it all. I would politely report these issues as soon as they came up and would receive sass, rude remarks, and questioning every time, even with very minor issues that would only require a professional coming out for 15 minutes to fix something. I was hung up on multiple times and just generally felt like they disliked me and were annoyed with me. They would give me different hoops and hurdles to navigate every time, even when it would be the same issue over and over again. For example, I had plumbing issues with the faucets in the bathroom on-and-off throughout my tenancy, where the shower/bath would be completely unusable. This happened multiple times and every time Iād report it, there would be a new rule before they would do something about it. The first time, they just directly contacted the plumbing company to come out as soon as it happened. The next time, they asked me for a photo and written request before they contacted plumbing and took an extra day to do anything. Another time, they made the on-site manager look at the issue first, even though this was fixed by the plumber before and there was nothing he could do about it, thus delaying the fix longer than it should have been. I'd love to give them the benefit of the doubt. I know we're all only human and I can only imagine how exhausting working at a property management company would be. But there were just too many instances of disorganization, uncaring/condscending attitudes, and unprofessionalism that compelled me to write this up. Iāve lived in many apartments before, and this was by-far the least taken care of apartment complex and the most difficult staff Iāve ever had to interact with.
