Customer experiences
“From Grits to Coffee: Perfect Start to the Day” Looking for breakfast in Philly, I stumbled on this spot and decided to give it a try. Best decision ever! We were seated right away (a win when you’re hungry), and our waitress was friendly and on point. The food came out fast, and the portions? Generous enough to match our appetite—just like home cooking. We had waffles, eggs with cheese, turkey bacon, cream chipped beef, grits, and pancakes. The turkey bacon was thick-cut and full of flavor—no paper-thin nonsense here. And the grits… wow. Perfectly cooked. So good we asked to thank the chef in person! The coffee was excellent—my personal breakfast test—and the staff made us feel so welcome we lingered longer than planned. Next time I’m in Philly, this will be my go-to breakfast stop. Big kudos to the chef!
Actually stumbled across this place on my way to another breakfast place. We're from out of town and looking for someplace that had breakfast, specifically pancakes or French toast for my daughter. As we were walking down the street, noticed this place which didn't come up on a Google search and decided to stop in. This has been the best choice of my morning so far. Service is great, food was quick to order and fantastic, and just an overall great vibe to the place. When in Rome, went with the cheese steak omelette and the pork roll egg and cheese sandwich. Brought back memories of when I used to live across the river in Jersey. Great little spot!
A part of me wants to give the rating a two star, but this wasn't a horrible experience, and so it gets three stars. First, the food is incredibly mid. It's bland but not bland enough where it's just bad food, but it definitely is not food worth over $20 with a drink. The chicken philly I got was pretty bland, and so was the philly my friend ordered. The breakfast sandwich was pretty good, but that was it. The fries were just, normal fries you could probably buy at a grocery store in a frozen bad. Not only that, but having no AC in the restaurant definitely didn't help. Our waitress barely attended to us, but she was also cooking at the same time so I can't blame her. Overall, if you're wanting food in Philadelphia, do not make Food on First your first choice. Even if it seems affordable, one, it's not, and two, it's definitely not worth it.
Super friendly waiter. Tuna Melt was bursting with tuna and cheese. Coffee was good too. Must visit again.
