Customer experiences
Amazing food and atmosphere. A true staple in Edmonton. The staff is very friendly and you can truly feel a sense of community, which is something very hard to find. The food is delicious and you can't beat the price. My boyfriend and I tried the buffet bar and they routinely check on the food so they never have old food out. On top of the buffet, wonton soup and dessert was included. I would come here for good comfort food and the atmosphere.
Dear Kinman, Amy, Hugh, Arlen, and the Lingnan Team: First and foremost, compliments to the Chef! Thank you for hosting our EDBFA (Edmonton Dragon Boat Festival Association) Volunteer Appreciation Lunch. What an exceptional experience with a luncheon spread that was to die for. The quality, quantity, presentation, and flavor of the dishes were top notch - Chef Ming Tsai would be impressed! Thank you for the extraordinary service and catering to the volume of our volunteers. The mood, tone, and atmosphere were only enhanced by the professional, yet personable deportment of your team. Amy, your personal touch is authentic and engaging. After eight years being absent on the North Saskatchewan River, we’re back in the water! And we’ll be back to The Lingnan again to celebrate our sport, appreciation, and affection for the cuisine and service. On behalf of the EDBFA Board and our Volunteers, 多謝 and "PADDLES UP!" PS: I love your broth!
I took my wife out for her birthday to this restaurant. I don't usually go to Chinese restaurants as I never cared for the food, so needless to say when I told her we where we were going, she was shocked. As we arrived outside, we both looked at each other and were thinking of finding some other spot as this is not a very appealing part of town. We decided to walk in, and boy were we surprised. I can't say enough about this place. The food, the decor, the service, all more than exceeded any expectations. This restaurant was the first time I can honestly say I've ever enjoyed Chinese food. Had the buffet, and that was delicious. I noticed that they don't wait until the dish is empty, they are filling them right away. I also love that all the staff were in Chinese outfits, especially the hostess. She was wearing a traditional silk dress. Very elegant. I learned that this restaurant has been in their family 4 generations. This generation is doing the originals proud, including Marty, their son.
We ordered the chicken fried rice and the crack chicken (dry and spicy chicken ) through Ubereats. While portion sizes were generous, we would not recommend the chicken unless you want to only eat fried batter. We read a lot of good reviews about this dish and were really excited to try it. But the fried chicken pieces seemed to have three times the thickness of the chicken itself whose taste was nowhere to be found. We had to literally slide the thin chicken pieces out and throw the rest of the fried batter. As for the spicy taste, it was not spicy at all. So if you want it like proper spicy, you should probably request it. The chicken fried rice was also okayish. The chicken (and supposedly egg) were almost invisible. I’m not sure if this was just a one time bad experience or the quality expectations of people are really low. I’ve got no clue why it’s referred to as “addicting” unless I’m trying to get myself addicted to fried flour batter. The dry and spicy chicken was just extremely disappointing and I’ve got no clue how anyone can just serve 80% fried batter (infact the tiny pieces in the dish didn’t even have chicken inside) and call it a chicken dish.
