I used these guys in 2011-12 ish when I put a ductless AC in my house on the Portobello and thought I would use them again. I called them in August and they sent a guy out to do a quote and I also asked for a quote on a ducted AC and if they did spray foam insulation on ducts ? Buddy told me that he would get back asap and after 2 weeks the power went off again so I text him never mind the AC unit because I made it clear from the beginning the generator panel was my number one concern. But I still wanted the quote for it, just I wasn’t going to do it his way with the government aid thing he suggested because it takes multiple quotes from multiple companies and waiting months when I was looking for immediately getting the panel work and maybe upgrade it to 200amp breaker. It’s now October 2nd and I still haven’t heard back from him or anyone from this company. So a company I once highly recommended, I don’t recommend because they must have so much business they don’t need to return messages or quotes. I am in my mid 40’s and I am not going to chase people when I am offering them money for fare work.
I have been patient and extremely reasonable for more than 18 months waiting for ET Mechanical to make things right with me; however, with a lack of response, I feel it is time to speak out. The primary heating source for my home is a boiler system which was required to be replaced in January 2024. On the day ET Mechanical booked for the unit to be replaced, they proceeded to remove the old unit without having a new unit to install. This was done on a Friday, and I was informed that there would be no chance of acquiring the new unit until Monday at which time it would be installed. When I asked how I was going to heat my home during the very cold weather, I was told by the employee doing the work that they would provide three small electric space heaters. I was assured that these would be sufficient to heat approximately 1,800 square feet. Included in the original quote were the replacement of three zone valves which I was told needed to be replaced in order for the system to work properly. At the end of the day Monday, the installer fired up the system only to find out that heat was not working in different areas of the house. His explanation for this was a faulty thermostat even though it worked fine prior to Friday. The zone valves I was told that were essential to making the system work properly were never installed however I had paid for them. It was a daunting task to obtain a refund for these. I was never offered an apology for their negligence in not having a replacement unit. The only thing offered was a free maintenance service for the following year. There was a significant lack of empathy or accountability in relation to the grief, financial stress and waste of time caused. Fast forward to October 2024. I turned on my heating system for the first time of the season only to find it wasn't working properly. I obtained another company to come take a look. They informed me there was an illegal in-line valve installed that if failed would allow the boiler system water to flow into the city water system as well as my house water supply. It was also explained that the entire boiler unit had been saturated with water leaking from a pipe installed by ET Mechanical. There was extensive rust all over the boiler and its electrical wiring connections. As a result, I would require a new boiler to be installed as well as the correct back flow valve to meet code requirements. I had the new company complete this work at my expense. Oddly enough, this work was completed in a fraction of the time it took ET Mechanical to complete the installation. I contacted ET Mechanical with regards to the illegal valve and destroyed boiler to seek compensation. I was told that they were only aware of the correct valve to be used after I brought it to their attention and they did some checking. I was offered a refund for the cost of the new valve however; they would not consider any type of compensation for the boiler unit saying that I should have called them rather than some other business. ET Mechanical stated that if I called them, they might have replaced the unit under warranty. I explained that I still had the damaged boiler and that they could pick it up and proceed with a warranty claim. I have contacted ET Mechanical several times since November 2024 in an effort to seek a resolution in regards to the boiler but they have yet to respond. In conclusion, the lack of respect, accountability, professionalism and customer service is blatant and unimaginable for a company with so many raving good reviews. I only hope that by me sharing my horrible experience with ET Mechanical, that you will think twice before choosing them. Their company motto is "we're always here for you". With that motto in mind, read my story again and ask yourself, was ET Mechanical there for me as their customer? Below I have attached pictures of the damaged boiler and the illegal valve they installed.
Edit: ET called us after this review to make things right. They have since filled the hole in the wall and fixed the ceiling, and built us a new cabinet for the electrical panel. They have also stated they will come fill the hole in our yard and re-seed our lawn this spring. (This they did not end up doing) While this shouldn’t have happened to begin with, we appreciate the extra mile to make things right. I have changed the review to reflect this. Did such a horrible job on upgrading our electrical panel. Dug up our backyard to get to the wiring but didn’t fill it back in, so we have a huge hole across our entire yard. Didn’t seal the wall where they ran the wires in which we didn’t realize until we had an energy inspection done. We now have cold air coming in through a big hole in the wall and mice. Cut a huge hole in our wall and drop ceiling and it’s just a mess. 0/10 do not recommend.
