Customer experiences
As an out-of-town traveler, discovering Centra Food Market was a real treat — it’s easily one of the cleanest and most impressive Asian supermarkets I’ve ever visited. The moment I walked in, it felt like stepping into a little Chinatown right in Aurora. The food selection is massive, with live seafood, hot food for takeout, Peking ducks, and even an excellent Durian section. I originally came here looking for the best Durian and was thrilled to find King Durian. Yes, it was pricey, but absolutely worth the trip. I was also impressed to find exotic petai (stinky beans) — a Southeast Asian delicacy that not everyone appreciates, but it’s something I grew up with and rarely see sold in stores. The produce selection overall is top-notch, fresh, and varied. Customer service has always been friendly; I’ve never encountered rude staff here. Whenever I’m visiting Toronto, I make it a point to stop by this store as a worthwhile detour outside the city. If time permits, I’ll definitely keep coming back.
“I recently visited Centra in Aurora. The store offers a diverse range of international products, which can be appealing for those looking for unique items. However, there are some areas that could use improvement: • Product Variety: One of the store’s strengths is its selection of international goods. • Fresh Produce: While the store carries fresh fruits and vegetables, the quality can be inconsistent. Regular checks to ensure freshness would enhance the shopping experience. • Expiration Dates: I recommend customers check product expiration dates carefully. • Customer Service: The customer service experience could be better; staff should engage more with shoppers. Overall, it’s a good place for specialty items, but there’s room for improvement, particularly in maintaining the quality of fresh produce.”
I have been shopping at this supermarket for almost 10 years and have always had a good experience—until today. Unfortunately, the cashier I dealt with left me feeling extremely disappointed and frustrated. When checking out, I was told that I could not use Apple Pay for a purchase over $200. I clearly remember being able to split the payment into two transactions before, so I asked if we could do the same. The cashier initially told me to void some items and pay for the first part (just under $200) and then rescan the remaining items separately. I agreed and followed her instructions. However, after voiding a couple of items, I politely suggested, “Why don’t you let me try tapping the full amount with Apple Pay to see if it works?” At that point, the cashier suddenly became upset and raised her voice at me, saying that her POS terminal only allows up to $200 by tap. She then canceled the process entirely and refused to continue. Instead, she told us to take everything, along with the receipt, to the service desk because she “couldn’t help us.” This was very unprofessional and unnecessary, especially since the store was not even busy at the time. There was no clear notice in the store about Apple Pay limits, and I was simply following the cashier’s own instructions. Being treated in this rude manner after years of loyal shopping was shocking and disappointing. I really hope management takes this feedback seriously and provides better training for staff, because this kind of customer service experience is unacceptable.
Today I bought some herbs, and I noticed that they had subtly reduced the size of the bundles. I also found some weeds mixed in. Two months ago, I bought two boxes of strawberries that were supposed to cost $6 for both, but when I got home, I realized they had charged me $6 for each one. When I brought it up with them later, they said their security camera footage had been deleted and that too much time had passed for them to prove I had bought it from there, even though I had the receipt. I think they just don’t care about customer feedback at all.
Centra Food Market is a asian grocery store.
