Subject: Serious Health Incident – Unsafe Shipment and Unprofessional Handling ***CAVEAT EMPTOR*** BJs shipped me a spoiled batch of their Premium Mix, which caused my dog to become extremely ill. The product was shipped without ice packs — despite my living in the Deep South — and I was not home at the time of delivery. I called BJs immediately upon receiving the package, and their representative assured me the product would be fine to use. The following day, after my dog’s first serving, she developed severe intestinal bleeding. I rushed her to the city vet, where I incurred over $850 in emergency and follow-up visits. I immediately contacted BJs, and they offered a refund. Without asking any questions about my dog’s condition or dietary needs, they also recommended switching from the beef mix to the turkey mix. Trusting their advice, I made the switch — and it turned into a nightmare. My dog lost 30% of her body weight and became severely ill again. Her protein levels dropped by 50%, and her daily caloric intake was reduced by half because of the change from beef to turkey. Another emergency vet visit confirmed these issues. I reached out to BJs multiple times, but communication was limited to texts and emails. No one from leadership ever called me back. The interactions I did have felt dismissive and unprofessional, as if I were speaking to untrained staff. This experience has been deeply disappointing and unacceptable. I trusted that BJs knew what they were doing — clearly, they did not. Important note: The American Veterinary Medical Association and other professional veterinary organizations do not endorse BJ’s or any other raw pet food brands. BJ’s Raw Pet Food advertises itself as “veterinarian approved,” referencing the late Dr. Ian Billinghurst, an advocate of raw feeding. This is not the same as formal approval by any veterinary association.

This is the most impressive food ever for my dog! I’m really happy with this raw food! I tried many before this one. I love the opportunity to give him not just one type of protein—actually 4 proteins in the same meal—with the vegetables and fruits that are good for him! He enjoys not only the premium mix, he also loves the goat milk and the many treats! I’m excited to one day meet the farm and really see where everything is coming from and thanks for all they do for my dog.

My dog absolutely loves BJ’s Raw Pet Food—mealtime is the highlight of her day. But what really impressed me was the trial pack for cats. I have two very picky eaters, and I wasn’t sure how they’d take to a different raw food. They both are now obsessed with the turkey blend. I also really appreciate the variety of proteins and the fact that it’s a whole-food-based diet without any weird fillers or synthetic ingredients.
