What a fun, special, old school atmosphere and hot specials and food! My friend and I enjoyed our spaghetti (sauce is gravy like vs. full on tomato) and juicy meatballs (3). Despite the tempting sandwiches, carving board for meat and side salads, we wanted a homey classic meal and enjoyed it. I preferred my soft roll vs. Sourdough. Take your lunch tray after you order, pay cash or credit (surcharge) then pick a booth or table or bar spot! Would love to come back to have a beer and enjoy the atmosphere. Water cup station and leave your tray when you leave and staff will pick it up. A special place, enjoy!!

The food was fantastic. We ordered beef brisket (a bit fatty), mashed potatoes, green bean veggies, mac salad and a roll. I do like the grunge vintage atmosphere. My only gripe was the rolls and butter being cold, and when I went to use the ladies' restroom to do just a short tinkle...tried to flush but it didn't flush the first time so the 2nd time tried to hold down the handle and it started overflowing with water rushing out of the bottom of the toilet. Yikes!

This is a grungy dive in a grungy part of the city, but if you love food and atmosphere, you need to visit at least once. I got the slim plate with brisket and mashed potatoes, baked beans, and a roll. The first bite of the brisket was amazing - great flavor and tenderness - but it was pretty fatty. The mashed potatoes were good, however the baked beans were undercooked and not well-flavored. The roll was obviously not freshly made. My friend got the brisket sandwich on sourdough and cole slaw and he said both were great. It was the late afternoon and I had a long drive so I did not visit the bar. It was $36.00 for both of us, which is a great price for a late lunch for two in the city. The bathrooms are upstairs at the top of a very narrow, steep staircase, so if you're disabled, you will likely not be able to access them. If you are going for beef and beer, I'd say give it a shot. However, it does look like it hasn't been cleaned or renovated since the 1906 earthquake, and while not visibly dirty inside, it was grungy and run-down. It's also pretty small inside, 4 booths, maybe 15 tables, plus the bar, so it's tight quarters.

Funky hole in the wall. Parking in S.F. is a pain but we went on a Saturday night at 9pm and walked right in. You order right in front and get your food immediately over the counter. The BBQ brisket plate ($18) was 8oz of good meat, mashed potatoes with gravy, another side. The cole slaw was great. The meat is more like thin prime rib and not brisket that's been cooked all day like a BBQ joint would do. Beans were great, too. The BBQ sauce they put on the meat was a tad sweet and watery and I would pass next time. Nice dudes at the counter and just a funky place with a full happening bar. It was good to be back and will do it again when back in S.F. It's a Diners, Drive Ins and Dive spot, too!
