Money-Hungry, Uncaring Office – Completely Disrespectful to Long-Term Patients! I am absolutely livid with my experience at Modern Smiles who are the new owners of what was my long-time dentist’s practice. After being a loyal patient of Dr. Ernie Johnson for 30 years, I trusted the transition to these new owners, but it has been nothing short of a nightmare. These people clearly don’t care about their patients – they’re only interested in making money. On my very first cleaning, they tried to tell me that I needed an outrageous $2,500 for a series of procedures that Dr. Johnson never mentioned I absolutely needed, after seeing me for three decades. How can you possibly know what’s wrong with a patient after one visit? Dr. Johnson always made sure I was informed and never pushed me into unnecessary treatments. But now, the new ownershave tried to imply and push me into ridiculous high cost treatments and procedures. Next, I made my six-month cleaning appointment, and due to personal issues – including working two jobs, a broken water heater, a flooded kitchen, and other problems at home – I had a hard time confirming the appointment. Despite my life being in chaos, I was never informed that failure to confirm would result in automatic cancellation. The day before my appointment, they called to say it was canceled. No warning, no policy explained upfront – just a cold, impersonal cancellation because I didn’t confirm in their ridiculous time frame and "the doctors gave my appointment to patients that did confirm." This practice is clearly about making money, not about caring for patients like family. They’ve lost the personal touch, and their customer service is appalling. It’s unbelievable that they would treat long-term patients this way. If you’re thinking about going here, don’t. They don’t care about you. They don’t care about your well-being. All they care about is lining their pockets. I will be finding a new dentist and I strongly advise everyone else to do the same. Modern Smiles is a disaster.

This office is NoT what it use to be. Front desk is not professional and has ignored so many phone calls. I have had two weeks worth of missed or ignored phone calls to try and cancel my appointment. This place use to be so welcoming and now it’s not. I’ve also been over charged knowing that I have full coverage dental insurance that covers cleanings (which I’ve only had one at this office) and two fillings right next to eachother (also in one visit) even including initial exam) in total only three visits is all it took for me to change my dental office. Hopefully this office doesn’t erase their one star reviews which deserve to be seen.

READ NEWEST REVIEWS - I would give negative stars if I could. This is NOT Cactus Dental anymore. Money hungry swindlers. WALK AWAY. The positive reviews are for Cactus Dental NOT Modern Smiles DONT BE FOOLED. Sign outside still says Cactus Dental and for how long now? Wonder why?

Dr. Johnson and his staff were amazing! They took the time to get to know their patients and went above and beyond to meet their patient's dental needs. HOWEVER, this is no longer the case under the new owners. Money is their bottom line and caring for their patient's is on the bottom of their long list. I was slapped with a bill (7 months after treatment) after being told my services were covered. I was only given 21 days to pay until it went to collections and there was no room for extenuating circumstances. Unfortunately, the over 30 years of being a patient with this dentistry means nothing - I'll be finding a new dentist.
