Imagine the development company that is building your home cutting corners on the first stages of work being done. These cut corners impacted public safety, the environment (425 fully mature 30+ year old trees taken down with birds, nests, and eggs during nesting season, turtles and eggs disturbed during peak nesting season), and moved forward without requirements being fully met for the city. Multiple investigations halted the process (the city, environment Canada), due to the above issues. If I can’t trust you in the first step of development, why would I trust the home you’re building? Building on a known flood plain is shady. Insurance companies are flagging the community as a risk, creating higher insurance premiums and some companies declining flood coverage. The Ontario Land Tribunal made the decision to proceed with development without a full understanding of the ecological picture. The community, city, and region are vocally against the development and have identified other areas that would be better suited. The only reason that makes sense is greed, which aligns with the cut corners on the first moment of development as above. See pictures for my review of development process- removing trees outside of safety fences without any signs or safety markings, leaving enormous piles of mulch in hot weather leading to the fire department coming out to multiple sites on multiple days. No picture but anecdotally telling kids walking to school to cross the street elsewhere, as they closed off a crosswalk for their own purposes. Even the other developments of detached, 1.7+million dollar homes in the area are stalled due to lack of sales. Let’s not pretend this is about the affordable housing crisis (LOL @ Carmen’s review that they will move in ‘soon’… ground has not broken. People aren’t against development, but when even the region says that this isn’t a good place to build, it’s not about people being selfish). rather than corporate greed and irresponsibility. Poor reviews for their management of the development sites, even in the first stages. Poor reviews for business ethics. Poor reviews for engagement with community. Strong reviews for corruption and greed though. I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t trust these people to build a bird house, let alone my lifelong home.
Argo Development has demonstrated a troubling disregard for environmental responsibility and community trust by removing over 400 mature trees in Millcroft without proper approvals, impacting local wildlife and breaching important protections for nesting birds. Their approach suggests a focus on profit over genuine community engagement and ecological stewardship. Based on their actions in Millcroft, I cannot recommend this developer to anyone who values sustainability, transparency, and respect for local communities.
I’m extremely disappointed in how Argo Development has handled their project in Millcroft, Burlington. They removed over 400 mature trees in a single day, without proper community consultation or clear approvals, and during a time when birds were actively nesting. This has caused significant harm to local wildlife and left many residents feeling ignored and betrayed. From what I’ve seen, Argo seems far more focused on profits than on respecting the environment or the people who live in the neighborhoods they develop. I would urge anyone considering buying from this developer to think more than twice.
