We hired Sutton Kitchens through B&Q. What was meant to be a two-week job ended up taking six, with Steve and his team rarely arriving before 9am and always leaving before 3pm. Key elements were left out of the original quote to make it appear cheaper, and once work began, these were added as “extras.” The quote also seemed to include floor tiling, but it didn’t — and the wall tiling was overestimated, making the quote misleading. Essential items like an electrical ring main were charged as additional costs, even though they were clearly required for the job. There was no excuse for this, as the paid survey was carried out by Steve himself, and all installation details were clearly outlined in the B&Q plan. To make matters worse, we later discovered that some units weren’t installed properly and tiles have started falling off the walls. When we reviewed the list of “extras” at the end of the job, we found that some of the items we’d been charged for hadn’t even been done. The work was so poor that B&Q eventually apologised and compensated us.
