This was a fantastic venue and made for a delightful romantic meal out for my partner and me. Although a small space, the ambience was great and there wasn't too much noise even though busy. The staff were all lovely to us, and provided excellent service - friendly, attentive, and helpful. Our food was overall very good, and drawn from a generous and imaginative menu. My prawn cocktail to start was a good portion, and the seafood linguine main was rich and spicy, although the squid in it was rather overcooked. My partner reported her starter to be the best scallops she'd ever eaten, and was likewise full of praise for the skate wing main. The wine list was excellently curated, and our accompanying bottle of prosecco was sensational and very reasonably priced for a restaurant. A great experience and would love to come again.

Went to Flute with family for an evening meal. Flute has been billed as one of the best seafood restaurants in Bath, so naturally I had to try it. This is a difficult review to write, as “restaurant” doesn’t quite fit. When we arrived (on Saturday at 8pm) there was only one other party in the restaurant, who were just having drinks - no food. This is odd. I then noticed written on the window the words “Seafood Bar”. It dawned on me that food may not play center stage here, and in said the main act would be alchoholic beverages. Despite this, Flute has a full* menu. I ordered the deep fried crab and the seafood linguine and finally the chocolate lava cake. The deep fried soft shell crab was… an experience. When I summoned up the courage to cut into the crab carcass, the flavour was mixed. I did get that white meat crab flavour from the main body, but eating the legs just tasted like paper. Also there was too much salt used in the creation of the dish, I could only take small bites once at a time. The mayonnaise provided really did help, along with the plain lettuce leaf. I then had the seafood spaghetti. I enjoyed this very much. The bisque had quite the heat to it, and the spaghetti was very tasty in and of itself. The squid was chewy, but had that characteristic rubber chew. The crayfish tasted as it should, as did the prawns. Overall I enjoyed it. Dauphinois potatoes were a disappointment. Seemed to be made with no cream. Tasted just like sliced up boiled potatoes. The chocolate lava cake should have been called the chocolate mountain cake, as there was no lava! Just tasted like generic chocolate cake. Ice cream added the needed wetness. Throughout the entire meal, not one new party came to eat. Very strange for a Saturday. Overall I think this place is more of a bar than a restaurant. May be nicer for a work lunch, but I think you’re better just going for a drink. *I would not consider having only two pudding options as “full”

Visited this place on a very busy Saturday for lunch. We didn’t have a reservation but were quite lucky to get a table for two. The staff was very friendly and nice, the service was good keeping in mind how busy it was there. The food was lovely, we ordered crab loaded fries as a starter and two chowders. Chowders were really good, served with home bread and butter, very filling and delicious dish. There is a selection of non-alcoholic drinks - one beer option, two wines and cocktails.
